Date a Phobe
So ya, I came to the serious realization today that I am in fact a full blown “Date a Phobe”! I mean I kinda have known this for a while but I guess I am just willing to admit it now. No, No, I don’t mean I am afraid of going on dates…. Yup, I can hear your keyboard furiously typing away right now! LOL But that’s a different topic. I mean I have a major issue with the expiration dates listed on consumable products.
At family BBQ’s before I eat or drink anything I look at the product date. If an item is out of it’s original container I will find the container and check the date. Yes, even if the container is in the trash, but if it’s super dirty or nasty then I just will skip checking for the date and skip the item in question. At home before I eat or drink anything I check the dates. Out in public it’s the same story. When I am out to eat that is a different story, I guess that is where I draw the line? However if I was honestly told that a certain spot had been known to have “out of date product” I would completely avoid eating there all together.
So what are the qualifications of my date issue? It goes like this. If the product is in date, but NOT the day it is said to expire by it’s fair game. If it’s the day of expiration then HELL NO I wont eat it, in fact if it’s the day BEFORE I won’t eat it either. Ok so what about the suggested “sell by” date. YUP that to me is an expires ON date! No exceptions! How bout if the item is froze before the “sell by” or “use by” date? Well if it was not the day of or day before then I am OK to use it the day it is thawed ONLY. After that I won’t touch it.
So what makes me like this? I dunno. Did I get some crazy food poisoning as a child? No, I am just strange like that, that’s all. So what am I gonna do to change it? Nothing, it doesn’t bother me. Just don’t get upset if I check out the dates of whatever it is your feeding me. I don’t really think your trying to kill me…. OR ARE YOU?!
